Our History
Thomas Edward Kettlewell (Working 1919-1948)
Established his business in Goole in 1919. Offices were opened in Hull, Grimsby and Immingham and Stevedores (Goole) Ltd was established. Under his Chairmanship the associated Holderness Steamship Co. Ltd owned and operated 12 coasters of about 1200 tons capacity. The company took an interest in related operations such as Ship Chandlers in Hull and Superintending and Tallying.
Thomas Clayton Kettlewell (Working 1924-1973)
An Agency and Stevedoring operation was established in Whitby. He was a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, London, and National President in 1958. A controlling interest in Atkinson & Prickett Ltd., was acquired in 1957.
Tony & Jerry Kettlewell (Working 1955/1962-2002/2009)
Stevedores (Goole) Ltd. was sold to the Port Authority but ten years later a return was made to stevedoring as shareholders in Boothferry Port Services Ltd., Goole. Operations in Whitby were sold in 1980. In 1979/80, Northern Motorway Warehousing commenced operations in Ossett from newly built premises.
With Belgian partners, Belantra Shipping Co. Ltd., operated and owned Time Chartered vessels between Belgium and ECUK carrying large quantities of steel products.
Steve & Richard Kettlewell (Working 1994 Onwards)
Achieved Economics and Business degrees at University before working in London for about 10 years in different fields of international commerce. Wholly owned stevedoring operations, Northern Labour Contractors and Storage and Handling, have been established and the activities of Atkinson & Prickett Ltd have been incorporated into Thos E Kettlewell & Son Ltd. Northern Motorway Warehousing has been sold and new offices purchased and opened as Kettlewell has developed a more national presence. The business is today lead by Managing Director, Steve Kettlewell.
